Energy costs should be a concern for any business. The new time of use billing structure will have a significant impact on energy expenses. Costs during peak hours will effectively increase by almost 70%

For example; until now customers have been charged 5.7 cents per kilowatt hour for the first 600 and 6.6 cents for each kilowatt hour above that during the summer months.

With the new model, customers on time-of-use will be charged 9.1 cents per kilowatt hour for their electricity usage during peak times, 7.6 cents for mid-peak consumption and 4.2 cents for off-peak usage.

The goal for the introduction of province wide time-of-use pricing is to better reflect the fact on-peak electricity usage puts more strain on the power grid and costs more. The intention is consumers will shift their usage to periods of lower demand to lower their costs.

If you are a small business owner, finding ways to reduce energy consumption is even more important than in the past.
